Jillian Mitchell

Jillian Mitchell, a Chartered Architect and founding Director of Lomas and Mitchell Architects, thrives on solving complex spatial challenges. She understands that clients seek reliable design and construction advice, guiding them confidently through every stage of a project.

With experience spanning from Bermuda to London and Sheffield, Jillian has worked on a wide range of projects, from hotels to bus stations, before founding Project Logistics Architecture in 1997, where her passion for private residential work grew.

The merger with Lomas Architecture has allowed Jillian to help establish Lomas and Mitchell Architects as one of the region's leading low-energy, design-led practices. Specializing in creating beautiful, healthy, and sustainable homes, Jillian has achieved notable success in securing planning approval for Paragraph 79 projects, which require designs of ‘outstanding architectural merit’ for countryside developments.

Jillian excels at helping clients clarify their needs and develop strong project briefs, ensuring a clear vision before any major investment. Outside of work, she enjoys singing in two choirs and playing Petanque, both of which let her unwind, enjoy the outdoors, and indulge her competitive side.

Richard Lomas

Richard Lomas, a Chartered Architect and founding Director of Lomas and Mitchell Architects, is deeply passionate about low-energy building design. His journey began with a degree in interior design, where he worked on prestigious residential projects in London during the 1980s before transitioning into architecture.

With experience in historic regeneration and arts projects in Leeds, Richard established Lomas Architecture, focusing on residential design. The merger with Project Logistics Architecture has enabled him to share his extensive expertise in low-energy design across both contemporary new-builds and historic properties.

A long-standing advocate of sustainable architecture, Richard became a certified Passivhaus designer in 2012. Since then, he has completed multiple Passivhaus and Enerphit projects, including the energy-efficient retrofit of his own 1960s home in Sheffield.

Richard brings a calm and thoughtful approach to each project, whether sketching design concepts or evaluating energy strategies. His expertise ensures that every detail, from design to energy efficiency, is meticulously considered.

Outside of work, Richard enjoys sampling real ales in search of the perfect pint. Frequent gym sessions and runs through the Peak District help balance out his indulgences, making room for the occasional well-earned treat!

Laura Goy

She values the practice’s inclusive design process, working closely with clients from the outset to fully understand and develop their vision.
