Transformation House

We were initially appointed to consider alterations to two properties which our clients were considering purchasing; neither provided the accommodation they needed.  When they said they really liked their existing house but it wasn’t suitable for their future-proof ambitions, we decided to take a good look and came up with a scheme which meant they could continue to live in the home they loved but change it to meet their wishes.  We considered replacing the whole house but decided to retain a shell, removing the ground floor and replacing it with a new, level and energy-efficient floor; to remove the first floor which was restricting head-height on the ground floor and to remove the shallow pitched roof, replacing it with a more steeply pitched version which created accommodation on the second floor.  A large sliding screen provides lots of natural light at the rear, together with great views over the south-facing garden. 

Energy efficiency was important in this project, and the shell of the existing house was wrapped in external wall insulation with a rendered finish.  Triple-glazed composite timber and aluminium windows were installed together with a whole-house ventilation system.  PV panels were installed within the roof at the rear and a battery was included in the plant room.
